Dduallt and Rhobell Fawr

Saturday 11th August 2007

A sunny summer walk in the southern Arenig hills

Distance: 13km; Ascent: 640m; Warm and sunny; with Lynsey, Jim, Rachel & Shona

We were away with friends in southern Snowdonia for the weekend and as none of us had walked in the Arenig hills before we decided to head to their southernmost outposts of Dduallt and Rhobell Fawr today.

After parking near the road head in the Mawddach valley we continued on up the valley on a track for a couple of kilometres before crossing the river in heading up into the open hills.  We picked a route up the north ridge and reached the summit of Dduallt (HuMP, Nuttall) at around 1:15pm

There were good views from up here, which we enjoyed whilst stopping for a spot of lunch.  Continuing onwards we descended the south ridge for just over a kilometre before picking a route through the forest and starting the steep ascent of our next hill.  We reached the trigpoint on the summit of Rhobell Fawr (Marilyn, Nuttall) at 4:15pm, and after admiring the views we descended back to the car.
