A Short Sunday Afternoon Wander Around Great Budworth

Sunday 1st September 2013

A short stroll in the Cheshire countryside

Distance: 3km; Ascent: negligible; Overcast but dry; with Lynsey, Isabel & Olivia

We fancied going for an afternoon walk somewhere new today and so we headed for the village of Great Budworth in deepest Cheshire with the promise of an ice cream farm towards the end of the walk!  After faffing around finding somewhere to park, we set off walking from Budworth Heath at around 2pm initially along the road. Soon we entered farmland and followed a footpath across several fields heading for the village of Great Budworth.

The village was quite picturesque, with its many old houses and sandstone church. There was even a set of stocks just outside the church wall, opposite the pub!

After wandering through the village and along footpaths and a minor road we reached the real objective of the day: The Ice Cream Farm!
This way for ice creams! :-)
We stopped for tea and ice cream (an interesting combination!), whilst Isabel was entertained by the small slide and bouncy castle! A short road walk brought us back to the car just before 4pm after a most pleasant afternoon stroll :-)

  1. The George & Dragon opposite the church serves good ale although it's a bit of a posh joint. The Cock o'Budworth (not a million miles away) serves rather very good Joe Holts.
Not that I know about pubs. Or beer.

    1. Trust you to know about the pubs nearby ;) Unfortunately we didn't have time to call in for any ale on this walk!

  2. I feel there could be a Budworth walk being organised here by a certain JJ or Rick. I must book a place on it. It is a very long time indeed since i was in Budworth.

  3. A good walk and an atmospheric Budworth village, this is a great pastime. Thank you for providing information about the route, as soon as there is the free time I'd happily arrange for me and my family a weekend tour. Now I'm testing tracking platform Detailed info here for the working transport, and I can also use the data from your card. Good luck and new even more interesting places;)
